Asscher-cut Diamond and Fancy Pinks

| Recently we created a stunning platinum ring
with an Asscher-cut Diamond and six natural Fancy Intense Pink
Diamonds channel set along the shoulders. The sleek design
was based on our Asscher
Tingle ring.
The client admired our original Asscher Tingle ring, but wanted a larger Asscher Diamond and slightly larger Pink Diamonds. So we helped him acquire the right diamonds and hand crafted the above ring in platinum with softly rounded edges and a glowing satin finish.  The center diamond and fancy intense Pinks nicely complement the cool white of the platinum and the magical geometry of the Asscher cut contrasts beautifully with the smooth, rounded surfaces of the band. We bezel set the Asscher Diamond on the diagonal for a more dramatic look. On each side of the Asscher, we channel set the Fancy Intense Pink Diamonds to extend the dynamic line of the diamonds across the top of the finger. The bezel setting neatly outlines the striking shape of the octagonal Asscher Diamond, while accentuating the dramatic optics of the cut.  The walls of the bezel setting are sharply tapered in width from top to bottom, adding to the dramatic look of this stunning ring. The setting is sturdily crafted and securely holds and protects the diamonds, with the Asscher-cut Diamond set just above the Pink Diamonds. This manner of setting the center diamond slightly above the side stones creates a continuous curve of sparkle and brilliance along the top of the ring.  The band of the ring is thick and perfectly shaped for a comfortable fit on the finger. Like all Bijoux Extraordinaire jewels, this ring was made to last a lifetime.  The underside of the ring has even, symmetrical windows beneath each diamond ("we call these "hurricanes"). Also note the exceptional polish and beautifully finished edges of the underside. At Bijoux Extraordinaire we believe that a fine jewel should be finished as nicely on the underside as it is on the top. The Story Behind
Asscher-cut Diamonds
The Asscher cut was first created in 1902 by a renowned diamond cutter, Joseph Asscher. Several years later Joseph Asscher was chosen by King Edward VII to cut the famed Cullinan diamond for the English crown jewels. Asscher-cut diamonds are usually octagonal in shape or a square with beveled corners. They have a deep step-cut crown and pavilion that create what we call the Hall of Mirrors effect. When you look directly into a well-cut Asscher diamond you see a wonderful illusion like an infinite hallway of reflecting mirrors. The Asscher cut of the early 1900s evolved into the elegant Emerald cut that became so popular during the Art Deco era. Many of the antique diamond cuts - Asscher, Old European and Rose cuts - are now experiencing a revival in popularity. |
