Egyptian Revival Gold Enamel BroochEgyptian Revival |
An elegant Egyptian Revival brooch with a striking enamel portrait of an Egyptian princess or noble woman accented with eleven rose-cut diamonds. Created in 18kt gold, circa 1885. The Victorians loved jewels inspired by ancient and distant cultures. During the 19th century the arts and architectures of ancient Egypt, Greece, Etruria, Rome and the Middle East all inspired jewelry makers, designers and architects. This brooch is a wonderful example of Egyptian Revival jewelry of the late 1800s. The back of this brooch is well constructed with a sturdy pin stem and double-loop "C" clasp. Note the thickness of the gold which provides a stable base for the beautiful enamel work and small diamonds. The gold surfaces over time have developed a rich, glowing patina.
