Blue and Gold!

The elegance of blue and gold!  Mid-century cufflinks featuring dyed blue chalcedony (a fine grained variety of quartz) set in polished yellow gold.  These cufflinks captivate with a sophisticated elegance that is well suited for both daytime and evening wear.  Created by Larter & Sons in 14kt gold,  circa 1950.

The backs of the cufflinks show the care and craftsmanship with which they were created.  Note the sturdy strap brackets and strong cross bars that secure the cufflinks on the cuff.  The brightly polished gold backs are inscribed "HSK to SHK"  -  a bit of provenance from the original owners.

One side of the cross bars is stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold.  The other side bares the maker's mark of Larter & Sons, a profile view of a shirt stud invented by Halsey Larter in the late 1890s.

Larter & Sons was founded in 1865 and created distinctive cufflinks, dress sets and other gentleman's accessories during the late Victorian era and first half of the 20th century.  The firm had offices in New York City and manufactured its jewelry across the Hudson River in Newark, New Jersey.
