Red Spinel in 18kt Gold Ring

18kt gold ring with a red spinel and two diamonds.

Arrest Me Red!

Arrest-Me-Red is a good way to describe the vibrant color of this Burmese Spinel.

The cushion-shaped red spinel is set in an 18kt gold ring with French double prongs that gracefully taper towards the base of the mounting.  The shoulders of the ring are gently scalloped to create a flowing,  undulating surface that sweeps upward to meet the spinel.  The edges of the shoulders are milgrained for an added touch of elegance.

Spinel,  a precious gemstone,  is found in a rainbow of beautiful colors  -  reds,  pinks,  lavenders,  blues and many other shades.  Spinels with a rich red color are often mistaken for fine rubies.  For example,  the Black Prince Ruby in the Crown Jewels of England was for many years believed to be a ruby.  In fact,  it is a fiery red spinel!

From the side you can see a "hidden treasure" we added to the design.  Beneath the red spinel,  on each side of the ring,  we set a small round brilliant-cut diamond between the upper and lower galleries of the mounting.  The white brilliance of the diamonds is the perfect complement to the fiery red of the spinel and rich warmth of the 18kt yellow gold.

This side view also shows the beautifully tapered prongs,  the graceful upsweep of the band and the gently concave shoulders.  Note the milgraining along the edges of the ring and mounting  -  a simple bead-like pattern that adds a rich elegance to the design.

On each side of the diamonds,  beneath the shoulders of the ring,  we placed two small circlets of platinum that continue like a secret passageway to the other side of the ring.  It is the little details,  the small accents and hidden treasures,  that help make a beautiful jewel truly unique.

Also note the thickness of the ring's band and the sturdiness of the mounting that holds the gemstones.   This assures that the spinel and diamonds are securely protected and that the ring will wear beautifully for many years.
