Elegant Tourmaline Stickpin

Whiteside and Blank roses and acanthus stickpin. (J9426)

Roses and Acanthus

Fragrant roses blossom while an acanthus leaf curls dramatically over the top of the stickpin to support a striking green gemstone (likely a peridot or tourmaline).  A band of white enamel highlights the inner edge of the setting.  This finely detailed stickpin is alive with symbols of love, health (acanthus), purity and youth.  An auspicious talisman for any wearer.  Crafted in 14kt gold,  circa 1900.

The back of the stickpin is as finely crafted as the front.  Whiteside & Blank was a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels during the late Victorian era into the early decades of the 20th century.  The firm's maker's mark (an arrow piercing a crescent moon) is stamped on the lower left of the back along with "14" for the purity of the gold (see photo below).

Cost:  $465

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is just over 2 5/8" long and the rose and acanthus top measures 5/8" by 7/16".  The stickpin weighs 2.2 grams.
