Dragon and Turquoise CufflinksGrinning Dragons |
Jewelers in the late 19th and early 20th century
often drew inspiration from the architecture and arts of
Asia. The material cultures and designs of China and Japan
were particularly strong influences. These beautifully
sculpted cufflinks with grinning dragons encircling sky blue
turquoise cabochons are an elegant example of East and West
meeting. Created in 14kt gold, circa 1890.
The solid gold backs of the cufflinks are as well finished as the fronts. Note the sturdy cross bars and ribbed brackets which secure the cufflinks on the cuff. Beneath the brackets "14K" is stamped for the purity of the gold.
