Amethyst and Pearl BroochAmethyst and Pearls |
A dramatic Art Nouveau brooch with sinuous curves and entwining organic shapes. A regal purple amethyst is set in the center and accented by five small pearls. A beautiful example of the flowing Art Nouveau style with nature viewed through a lens of fantasy. Created by Bippart, Griscom & Osborn in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
This brooch is well crafted and almost as beautiful on the reverse as it is on the front. Note the sturdy gold framework that supports the intricate design. When worn the brooch is secured with a sturdy pin stem and "C" clasp. Beneath the pin stem a chatelaine hook allows a small watch or pendant to be suspended.
The back of the brooch is stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold. To the right of the gold mark is a partially obscured maker's mark - a flaming torch lying on its side. This is the mark of Bippart, Griscom & Osborn, a maker of fine gold and platinum jewelry during the late 19th and early decades of the 20th century. Name: Amethyst and Pearls |
