A client wanted to create an elegant engagement
ring incorporating his fiance's favorite color violet. He
wanted the ring to be special and he thought violet diamonds
were an ideal way to celebrate their betrothal. Since
natural violet diamonds are rare, he asked the Jewelry
Experts to help him with his quest.
Normally we start an engagement ring project with the center stone, but because natural violet diamonds are so rare, we first matched up a beautiful pair of round fancy blue-violet diamonds. We then designed the ring around these colorful dazzlers. ![]()

![]() Our client desired a handcrafted platinum ring that would be elegant without being overstated. He wanted a ring that would highlight and complement the striking beauty of the Diamonds. We suggested a variation of our Breathless design. The Asscher-cut Diamond is set within four gently tapered prongs. To each side is a round Violet Diamond set with three complementing prongs. The platinum prongs and band of the ring are polished to a bright, mirror-like finish. ![]() Because each of our rings is custom designed and the settings hand crafted, we are able to adapt each ring so that it beautifully highlights the size and shape of the gemstones. The goal is to create a dazzling array of gemstones with no unsightly gaps or breaks between the stones. The gemstones should dance in unison across the top of the wearer's finger. ![]() Another advantage of custom designing and hand crafting our rings is that we can adapt a ring's design to our client's taste and add unique, personal elements. Our client was enamored with the Violet Diamonds and asked if we could add two more to the design. So we set two smaller Violet Diamonds between the upper and lower galleries of the Asscher-cut Diamond setting. Small details like this make the ring a personal treasure.
When did you last see an engagement ring
featuring a beautiful Asscher-cut
Diamond complemented by four striking Violet Diamonds? |

![]() One of our goals in hand crafting a ring is to make the inside as beautiful and well crafted as the top. Note the smooth, even cut-outs beneath the Diamonds, the elegant taper of the prongs, and the slight narrowing of the band as it approaches the Diamonds. The thickness of the band and the strength of the settings help assure that this ring will last a lifetime and become a family heirloom. |
|
![]() The final special touch to this extraordinary ring is the manner in which we polish each prong to create a "spear-tip". Our finely shaped dramatic prongs help to showcase these unique diamonds. The trilogy of the Asscher-cut and Violet Diamonds presents a strong visual geometry that is perfectly balanced by the soft violet hue of the side Diamonds. The combination of Diamonds is breathtaking! |

The Story Behind
Asscher-cut Diamonds
The Asscher cut was first created in 1902 by a renowned Diamond cutter, Joseph Asscher. Several years later Joseph Asscher was chosen by King Edward VII to cut the famed Cullinan Diamond for the English crown jewels. Asscher-cut Diamonds are usually octagonal in shape or a square with beveled corners. They have a deep step-cut crown and pavilion that create what we call the Hall of Mirrors effect. When you look directly into a well-cut Asscher Diamond you see a wonderful illusion like an infinite hallway of reflecting mirrors. The Asscher cut of the early 1900s evolved into the elegant Emerald cut that became so popular during the Art Deco era. Many of the antique Diamond cuts - Asscher, Old European and Rose cuts - are now experiencing a revival of popularity. |
