![]() Elegant Edwardian Bar Pin![]() Black and Gold! |
The elegance of Edwardian design! A rich yellow gold bar pin with floral and scroll motifs highlighted by a dark, black enamel background. A small luminous pearl is set in the center. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
![]() The pearl rests in a brightly polished gold setting which gives the glowing orb a golden halo. Along the sides, the gold accents are stylized lilies or, perhaps, flaming torches - both symbols of faith and love. The edges of the pin are finished with a fine bead-like pattern that adds a final touch of elegance.
![]() The beauty of the front of the pin is matched by the careful craftsmanship visible on the reverse. The sturdy gold back provides a solid foundation for the enamel while the strong pin stem and early safety clasp securely hold the pin when it adorns a lapel or blouse. The top of the safety clasp is stamped with "14K" for the purity of the gold. Above the gold mark is the maker's mark of Carter, Howe & Company (an arrowhead surrounding a small "C"). ![]() Carter, Howe (later named Carter, Gough) was an important American maker of fine jewelry. Founded in 1841 the firm created elegant brooches, cufflinks and other jewels for nearly 100 years. The firm closed its doors during the 1930s. Name: Black and Gold |
