The backs of the cufflinks are crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a mirror-like finish.  They are connected with sturdy cross bars and brackets.

Close-up of precious metal and maker marks.

The cross bars are marked "PLAT & 14K" for platinum and 14kt gold.  The maker's mark is a "14" surrounded by an elongated "C".  This is the maker's mark of Charles Keller & Company,  a maker of fine cufflinks during the first few decades of the last century.
