![]() Victorian Anemone Brooch![]() Golden Anemone! |
A beautifully crafted brooch of an anemone with richly detailed petals, stamens and center. In the late Victorian era jewels realistically depicting flora and fauna were the fashion. A golden garden and menagerie was created to celebrate a wearer's love of nature and beauty. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
![]() The brooch is beautifully crafted with a strong pin and sturdy "C" clasp. The folding bail at the top allows the brooch to also be worn as a pendant. A small five-point star, perhaps the maker's mark, is stamped on the lower petal. According to Greek legend, Anemone was a nymph who attracted the affections of Zephyr, the gentle west wind of Spring, and Borea, the harsh north wind of Winter. Flora, the goddess of flowers, was jealous that a mere nymph had attracted the attention of the two windy gods. So she turned Anemone into an early blooming flower that would blossom after the harsh winter winds and wither before the gentle breezes of the Spring. In the Victorian era anemones were often associated with anticipation and frustrated expectations. Name: Golden Anemone |
