Art Deco Sapphire StickpinSapphire Geometry |
A maze of interlocking squares frames a bright
blue sapphire and small sparkling diamond in this elegant
example of geometric design from the Art Deco era. This
Jazz Age stickpin was created by Whiteside & Blank in 14kt
gold circa 1925.
Whiteside & Blank was a maker of fine stickpins during the late 19th and early 20th century. The firm was known for its imaginative, striking designs which were meticulously executed with a high standard of craftsmanship. The jewels created by Whiteside & Blank were retailed at Tiffany & Company and other carriage-trade jewelers of the day. The maker's mark of Whiteside & Blank (an arrow piercing a crescent) is stamped on the reverse of the stickpin along with "14" for the purity of the gold. The gold and maker marks, as well as the care with which this stickpin was crafted, can be seen in the photo below. Cost: $445 |
