Antique Sapphire CufflinksEntwined Hearts! |
Elegant sweeping whiplash curves create two intertwined hearts centered with sparkling blue Sapphires. These curvaceous cufflinks are a wonderful example of the sinuous, freeform designs popular during the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts periods. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The cufflinks are beautifully constructed. The elegant tops attach with "y" bridges to sturdy bean backs. There is elegance in the simplicity of the design and the goldsmith's attention to small details.
Whiteside & Blank, a maker of fine cufflinks during the late 1800s and early 1900s, is the creater of these cufflinks. The maker's mark for Whiteside & Blank is an arrow piercing a crescent moon - visible on the left side of the bean back. To the right is stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold.
