Sculptural Atlas Stickpin

Atlas stickpin. (J9475)

Atlas and the Pillars

Atlas carries the weight of the world on his shoulders framed by two classically inspired pillars and a soaring arch.  This finely modeled stickpin is a richly detailed miniature work of sculpture crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1920.

In Greek mythology Atlas was condemned by Zeus to hold up the sky through eternity after the Olympians defeated the Titans.  By some accounts Hercules later took pity on Atlas and built two pillars to ease his burden.  This stickpin is a beautiful example of the early 20th century/Art Deco interest in the myths and architecture of the classical world.

The stickpin is finely crafted with a sturdy pin to secure the jewel when worn.  The reverse beneath the pin is stamped with an unknown maker's mark "HK&S" and "14K" for the purity of the gold.  (photo below)

Cost:  $485

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures just over 5/8" by 5/16".  It weighs 3.4 grams.
