Brassler Carnelian Stickpin

Hans Brassler carnelian stickpin. (J9360)

Carnelian Curves

A dramatic carnelian glows luminously from within flowing folds of gold.  There is a wonderful contrast between the stark geometry of the carnelian and the organic curves of the sculpted gold.  Created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was a gifted jewelry designer who in the early 1900s created a wonderful body of stickpins and other jewels that are best described as miniature works of sculpture.  He found inspiration in nature, fantasy and history to create wonderfully imaginative jewels in the Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Beaux Arts styles.

This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a strong gold pin stem and sturdy frame to secure and protect the carnelian.  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, a double oval surrounding "14B" is stamped on the lower right of the reverse (see photo below).

Cost:  $485

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures 5/8" by  just over 1/2".  It weighs 2.5 grams.

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian and is reported to have earned a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris.  Later he worked with Tiffany & Company prior to founding his own firm, The Brassler Company, in 1909.  Brassler served as creative director for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of imaginative, richly detailed jewels.
