Brassler Carnelian Stickpin

Hans Brassler carnelian stickpin. (J9360)

Carnelian Curves

A smoldering carnelian glows within an undulating, flowing setting.  There is a wonderful contrast between the crisp geometry of the carnelian and the flowing lines of the sculpted gold.  Created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was a gifted jewelry maker who in the early 1900s created a wonderful collection of stickpins, brooches and other jewels that are best described as miniature works of sculpture.  He drew inspiration from nature, fantasy and history to create elegant jewels that are unique in their imaginative sense of style.

This stickpin is finely crafted with a sturdy gold frame to secure and protect the carnelian (see photo below).  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, a double oval surrounding "14B" is stamped on the lower right of the reverse.

Cost:  $465

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures 5/8" by  just over 1/2".  It weighs 2.5 grams.

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian and is reported to have earned a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris.  Later he worked with Tiffany & Company prior to founding his own workshop in 1909, The Brassler Company.  Brassler served as artistic director for six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of imaginative, finely crafted jewels.
