Art Deco Jade Stickpin

Hans Brassler jade stickpin. (J9191)

Coffin Jade

A luminous green, coffin-shaped jade hinting of early Art Deco set beneath flowing Art Nouveau curves and classical laurel wreath borders.  A wonderful example of the elegant, imaginative jewels created by Hans Brassler.  Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was a wonderfully imaginative jeweler who around 1910 created a unique collection of stickpins and other small jewels.  He often wedded elements of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and classical design to create striking miniature works of art.

This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a sturdy gold pin stem to secure the jewel on a lapel or scarf.  The maker's mark of Hans Brassler's workshop, a double oval enclosing "14" followed by a "B", is stamped on the lower reverse behind the pin stem (see photo below).

Cost:  $745

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 5/8" long and the top measures 11/16" by  7/16".  It weighs 2.6 grams.

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.  Later he worked with Tiffany & Company prior to founding his own firm in 1909, The Brassler Company.  Hans Brassler served as vice president and creative director for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of imaginative, richly detailed jewels.
