Diamond and Mother-of-Pearl Dress Set
Carrington Diamond Elegance! |
|
An elegant Carrington dress set with creamy white mother-of-pearl centers surrounded by sparkling rose-cut diamonds set in platinum. The fire and sparkle of the rose-cut diamonds is beautifully complemented by the the slight pinkish blush of the mother-of-pearl. A nice example of Carrington's virtuosity in wedding exquisite materials in simple, elegant designs. Crafted in platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1925.
![]() Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs and four vest buttons. The shirt studs and vest buttons repeat the elegant sparkling design of the cufflinks. The shirt studs (pictured above) are 3/8" in diameter and 1 1/4" long. The vest buttons (one shown below) are the same size as the cufflinks, 9/16" in diameter.
![]() Carrington & Company was a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets during the first half of the 20th century. The firm's gold and platinum jewels were often retailed by Tiffany & Company and other prestigious jewelers of the day. This dress set was commissioned from Tiffany & Co. during the 1920s and includes the original maroon leather and white silk case (see below).
![]() The reverse of the cufflinks, shirt studs and vest buttons are as beautifully crafted as the fronts. The backs are crafted in 14kt yellow gold and polished to a bright finish. The links are secured on the cuff with sturdy brackets and cross bars. Note the small windows opened in the platinum beneath each rose-cut diamond. The openings were hand drilled when the diamonds were set. Known as "a jouré," these small windows allow light to play off the backs of the stones. One of the many small details at which Carrington excelled.

The backs are stamped with the maker's mark for Carrington & Company, a "C" surrounding "14", as well as "GOLD & PLAT." for the precious metals.
Name: Carrington Diamond Elegance
This dress set glitters with approximately 300 rose-cut diamonds and was purchased at Tiffany Company during the 1920s. The dress set comes with its original period case covered in maroon leather and lined with white silk. The inside of the lid is signed "Tiffany & Co./New York/Paris London" and the underside of the case is blind stamped "Tiffany&Co." just beneath the clasp.
The gilt embossing on the top of the case (see below) indicates that the dress set was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary (the Diamond Anniversary) of an important partnership or firm. It was likely a gift to an important figurehead or benefactor of the firm.
