Dragon with Diamond

Carrington dragon with diamond stickpin. (J9439)
An avaricious dragon desperately clutches an oversize  diamond in its maw.  The beautifully sculpted, richly detailed dragon is a testament to the artistry and skill of the jewelry makers of the past.  This elegant stickpin was created by Carrington & Co. in 14kt gold,  circa 1900.

Carrington & Co. was a maker of fine cufflinks, stickpins and other gentleman's accessories during the first half of the 20th century.  The firm was known for its elegant design, meticulous craftsmanship and fine materials.  Carrington jewels were retailed by Tiffany & Co. and  other fine jewelers of the day.

The reverse of the stickpin (photo below) illustrates the care with which Carrington & Co. created it.  Note the sturdy pin stem which attaches to the back of the dragon with a strong collar.   The maker's mark of Carrington & Co. (a boxy "C" enclosing "14")  is stamped to the lower right of the collet securing the diamond.  The diamond is an Old European cut weighing approximately 1/4 carat.

Cost:  $785

Measurements:  The stickpin is  2 1/2" long and weighs 3.7 grams.  The dragon top is just under 5/8" tall by 3/4" wide.
