Art Nouveau Stickpin

Carter, Howe Art Nouveau stickpin of woman and pansy. (J9166)

La Pensée!

A wonderfully evocative stickpin of a contemplative woman framed by the petals of a pansy and the hint of a rising sun.  The possibilities for symbolic interpretation are endless ... thought, wisdom, self awareness, enlightenment.  Beautifully sculpted in 14kt gold,  circa 1900.

In the years around 1900 jewelers working in the Art Nouveau style created wonderful jewels embracing themes of beauty, fantasy and nature.  This stick pin is a striking example.

The reverse of the stickpin is finely crafted in solid gold and attached to the pin stem with a sturdy collet.  To the left of the pin stem is stamped "14" for the purity of the gold.  To the right is the maker's mark of Carter, Howe & Company, a maker of fine stickpins and other jewels in the decades around 1900.

Cost:  $425

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is  2 1/4" long and weighs 1.7 grams.  The top measures just under  1/2" by  7/16".
