Art Nouveau Stickpin

Carter, Howe Art Nouveau stickpin of woman and pansy. (J9166)

La Pensée!

A wonderful Art Nouveau stickpin of a woman with wild, cascading hair framed by the petals of a pansy.  The image is beautifully sculpted and richly detailed.  Created by Carter, Howe in 14kt gold,  circa 1900.

In the years around 1900 jewelers in the Art Nouveau style created wonderfully evocative jewels embracing themes of beauty, fantasy and nature.  This stick pin is a striking example.

The reverse of the stickpin (pictured below) is well crafted.  The back is solid (not stamped out) and attached to the pin stem with a sturdy collet.  The reverse is stamped "14" for the purity of the gold followed be the maker's mark of Carter, Howe & Company on the far side of the pin stem.

Cost:  $425

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is  2 1/4" long and weighs 1.7 grams.  The top measures just under  1/2" by  7/16".
