Victorian Locket with Crane

Victorian 14kt gold locket with a crane clutching a diamond in its beak. (J8639)

Crane & Diamond

A finely crafted Victorian locket adorned with a crane gingerly stepping between cattails in a marshy setting.  The crane grasps an Old European-cut diamond in its beak.

During the late Victorian era, Western jewelry makers were influenced by the nature-inspired woodblock prints and decorative arts of Japan and East Asia.  This locket beautifully reflects this influence.  Created in 14kt gold, circa 1890.

The reverse of the locket glows with a rich golden patina
and is engraved "EBM" in a flowing Victorian script.
