Art Deco Sapphire Brooch

Frank Krementz sapphire bar pin. (J9346)

Sapphire Elegance!

An elegant Art Deco bar pin set with two bright sapphires.  A delicate filigree of boxed ovals fills the body of the piece with two inward pointing triangles at the ends.  All the edges are milgrained to add a bright sparkle.  An extraordinary richness of fine detail in a jewel just 1/8" wide.  Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1925.

The central motif features two sapphires in six-sided settings with a small diamond shape in between.  The settings of the sapphires are "stretched" slightly outward directing the eye towards the ends of the piece where small triangle motifs direct the gaze back inward.  The bead-like pattern of the milgraining is visible in the close ups.

The delicate beauty of the front of the pin is complemented by the sturdy construction of the back.  Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, the sturdy under gallery, thick pin stem and early safety clasp protect and secure the pin when it adorns a lapel, blouse or hat.  This bar pin was created by Frank Krementz, a jewelry maker who took as much time and care with the hidden, unseen parts of a jewel as with the visible.

Close-up of maker;s mark. (J9346)
Frank Krementz was a member of the Krementz jewelry dynasty who in 1910 went his own direction.  For several decades his jewelry firm created fine brooches, cufflinks and other small jewels.  The top of the safety clasp is stamped with the maker's mark of the Frank Krementz Company  -  a reversed "F" abutting a "K".  To the left of the maker's mark "14" is stamped for the purity of the gold.
