Art Deco Sapphire Cufflinks
| Bright blue sapphires sparkle amid a cascade
of finely engraved lines. The mesmerizing centers are
framed by borders of alternating scroll and floral (or are they
dragonflies) motifs. A jazzy example of Art Deco design in
14kt white and yellow gold, created circa 1925.
The yellow gold backs are as well crafted as the fronts. Note the sturdy brackets, rings and cross bars that secure these cufflinks on the cuff while also helping to protect the backs of the sapphires. The gold surfaces are polished to a mirror-like finish - please excuse the shadowy reflections of the camera.
These jazzy cufflinks were created by William Huger & Company, a maker of elegant cufflinks and other jewels during the early decades of the 20th century. The firm was especially known for the striking, richly detailed cufflinks it created during the Art Deco era. The maker's mark of William Huger & Co. (an "H" squeezed in the middle) is stamped on the reverse of the cufflinks along with the precious metal mark ("14").
