Elegant Art Nouveau Cufflinks

Krementz Art Nouveau cufflinks crafted in 14kt gold. (J8783)

L'Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau jewelers turned away from the historic revivals and fussy formalism of the Victorian era.  Instead, they worked with fantasy, nature and an abundance of whiplash curves to create extraordinary jewels.  These elegant cufflinks are a beautiful example.  With perhaps an hint of ancient Egypt or South America, these cufflinks were more drawn from a designer's imagination than any specific historical antecedent.  Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.

The cufflinks are beautifully modeled with exceptional detail.  One of the nice aspects of the cufflinks is that the central motif is scaled down and repeated on the backs.  Often the backs of fixed-bridge cufflinks were left plain or merely engraved with the initials of the original owner.

The tops are attached to the backs with sturdy "crow foot" bridges and are crafted in 14kt rose gold.  The ruddy cast of the rose gold nicely contrasts with the yellow gold of the tops and backs.  Note the maker's attention to the finish and small details.

These cufflinks were created by Krementz & Company.  Krementz was founded in 1866 and crafted elegant cufflinks and jewels during the Victorian and later periods.  The Krementz hallmark, a stylized collar button, can be seen just to the right of the "14K" precious metal mark.
