These cufflinks are well constructed with sturdy cross bars and strap brackets.  The backs are crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a bright finish.  Please excuse any dark reflections from my camera.

Sapphire and Diamond Cufflinks

Sometimes known as "Night and Day" cufflinks,  Sapphire and Diamond cufflinks are a reflection of the Victorian tenet that diamonds should only be worn after dark.  A gentleman (or lady) could wear these cufflinks during the day with the sapphires facing outward.  In the evening the cufflinks would be reversed to display the diamonds.

By the Jazz Age of the 1920s,  it is doubtful that the fashion strictures of the Victorian era were given much weight.  Still, the jazzy mix of diamonds and sapphires added to the elegant versatility of the cufflinks, so the design remained popular.  It is undeniable that either gemstone plays beautifully when set in finely engraved platinum.
