Sapphire and Pearl BroochThe Aviatrix! |
Luminous white pearls float like dew drops on small flowers while a bright blue sapphire rests in a wreath of golden laurel leaves. The overall design of this small brooch is reminiscent of the wooden propellers of early airplanes. Perhaps this jewel was inspired by the early experiments in aviation or worn by a celebrated aviatrix. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1920.
The brooch is beautifully crafted. A sturdy pin stem and early safety clasp secure the jewel on a blouse, jacket or hat. The sapphire is set in a bezel setting and the sturdy underside of the brooch helps protect the pearls Among the joys of antique jewels are the elegance of the designs and the beauty of the craftsmanship.
