Victorian Equestrian BroochSloan Equestrian! |
During the late Victorian era and early 1900s animal jewels were all the rage. Horses and equestrian related themes were particularly favored. This beautifully sculpted horse brooch is richly detailed and accented with a green enamel girth strap. Created by Sloan & Co. in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The view of the brooch from the back highlights the dramatic silhouette of the equine subject. The brooch is beautifully crafted and secured with an early safety clasp and sturdy pin stem. The rich detailing of the front of the brooch is matched by the care with which the reverse was crafted.
The brooch was created by Sloan & Co., a maker of fine brooches, cufflinks and other jewels during the late 1800s and first half of the 20th century. The lyre-shape maker's mark of Sloan & Co. is visible just to the left of the precious metal mark ("14") on the clasp. Name: Sloan Equestrian |
