Art Nouveau Amethyst Brooch

Amethyst and Pearls

Beautiful Art Nouveau curves envelop a vibrant amethyst.  Four small pearls nestled in swirling vortices of gold complete this elegant brooch.  Created by Whiteside & Blank in 14kt gold, circa 1900.

The brooch is finely crafted.  Note the strong "C" clasp and pin which secures the brooch when worn and sturdy bezel which holds and protects the amethyst.  These small details are a sign of the care taken by the maker in creating the jewel.

A chatelaine hook beneath the pin allows a small watch or other pendant to be suspended below the brooch.  Or, a fine gold chain can be passed through the chatelaine hook and the brooch worn as a charming pendant.

One side of the "C" clasp displays the maker's mark of Whiteside & Blank - a crescent pierced by an arrow.  The other side is stamped "14" for the purity of the gold.  Whiteside & Blank was a maker of elegant brooches, cufflinks and other fine jewels in the years around 1900.  Whiteside and Blank was one of the more storied jewelry firms of the early 1900s.  One of the partners, Henry Blank, was a survivor of the Titanic tragedy in 1912.
