Art Nouveau Sapphire Stickpin

Sapphire Scrolls!

Intertwining golden scrolls centered with a rich blue sapphire.  The flowing, interlacing curves reflect the sinuous style of the Art Nouveau, as well as the intricate Celtic Revival designs of the early 1900s.   Crafted in 14kt gold,  circa 1900.

This striking stickpin was created by Whiteside & Blank,  a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels during the early 20th century.  The firm was known for elegant design and fashion innovation:  Whiteside & Blank was the first jewelry manufacturer in the United States to create wristwatches for women.  The firm's jewelry and watches were sold at Tiffany & Company and other leading retail jewelers of the day.

The maker's mark of White & Blank, an arrow impaling a crescent, is stamped of the reverse of the stickpin, along with the gold purity mark "14".  The photograph below of the reverse of the stickpin illustrates the maker's mark and the care with which the pin was crafted.

Cost:  $625

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and weighs 2.4 grams.  The interlacing top is  9/16" tall and 5/8" wide.
