Antique Engraved Gold CufflinksGolden Elegance! |
In the early 20th century British jewelers excelled at creating elegant cufflinks with wonderfully intricate engine-turned (engraved) designs. This pair is a beautiful example with parallel lines overlaid by a trellis of diamond-like shapes. The pattern is bisected by a diagonal band of rippling lines that create the illusion of an endless golden stairway. Crafted in 15kt gold, circa 1930.
As with all fine jewels, you should examine the backs of cufflinks closely. Note the maker's attention to detail, the sturdy brackets, and the elongated oval links that secure these cufflinks on the cuff. The backs are stamped with a British gold mark ("15ct") and the maker's mark "Britannic". Britannic was a maker of fine cufflinks, watch bracelets and other jewels during the 1920s and 1930s.
