Spectacular Tanzanite and Diamond Ring

It takes only one word to describe this
beautiful ring ... "Wow!".
Handcrafted in 18kt gold and platinum, this spectacular ring features a large oval tanzanite set in a dramatic platinum mounting. On either side of the tanzanite, round diamonds are set in platinum bezels that sparkle at the center of beautifully sculpted yellow gold flowers. Trailing below the stylized flowers, a spray of platinum leaves glistens with a line of channel-set diamonds. The platinum of the leaves and settings offers a wonderful contrast to the rich yellow gold of the flower heads and the ring's body.  The tanzanite featured in this ring is a deep, rich velvety violet-blue. Tanzanites of this size and quality are quite rare, whereas tanzanites of lower quality are still relatively common. Tanzanites are mined in Merelani, Tanzania among the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Like most tanzanites, this one was heat treated to maximize its rich violet-blue color. The client for whom we made this spectacular ring wanted a large oval tanzanite set in a significant ring with floral and natural elements. She also wanted lots of diamonds to add brilliance and sparkle. We helped her acquire a 5.8-carat tanzanite which displays the rich colors of this gem at its best! As for the diamonds, we chose G color and VS clarity. Each of the diamonds is premium cut, so that its sparkle and glitter can be seen even from afar. |

This ring is as dramatic from the side as it is
from the top. The center tanzanite and side diamonds are
set in a flowing cascade of sparkle. The flower heads and
leaves were meticulously carved and hand engraved to create a
rich life-like appearance. And the warm tones of the gold
beautifully contrast with the cool brilliance of the platinum
and diamonds.
This side view also shows the uncompromising craftsmanship of our goldsmith. Note the even, crisp, smoothness of the platinum bezel and channel settings. Work of this calibre is very difficult, but absolutely essential. If the settings are uneven or mis-shapen, gemstones can become loose, further erode the setting and eventually fall out. The center tanzanite is securely set with double platinum prongs at each corner. Because tanzanite is a relatively soft gemstone, extra care should be taken in setting and protecting this magical gem. |
| Along the sides of the ring there are platinum
scrolls set in recessed golden niches. Nestled in the
loops of each scroll are small sparkling diamonds.
Also note the beautiful fleur-de-lys that graces the outer sides of the tanzanite's setting. Against the rich field of yellow gold, the platinum scrolls and fleur-de-lys perfectly complement each other. |

 Stamped on the inside of the ring you can see the Bijoux Extraordinaire hallmark, "BEL", a symbol of excellence. The ring is also marked to indicate the purity of the platinum and gold, respectively "10% Irid 90% Plat" and "18kt". Like all fine jewels, the inside of this ring is as nicely finished as the outside. With all rings, it is important that the inner surfaces be smoothly polished and the edges of the band gently contoured. After all, your ring must not only be beautiful to the eye, but also comfortable on your finger! |

| The center tanzanite weighs 5.8 carats and measures 13 x 10 millimeters. The two larger diamonds at the center of the flower heads weigh a total of 0.60 carat, while the smaller diamonds weigh 0.30 carat. |
