Art Nouveau Flower Brooch

An Art Nouveau golden flower set with small white pearls.  The undulating petals are finely shaped and beautifully detailed.  Rising, twisting tendrils frame the flower.  This jewel wonderfully captures the sense of a fragrant flower swaying in a gentle breeze.  Created by Whiteside & Blank in 14kt gold, circa 1900.

The brooch is well crafted with a sturdy substructure to support and protect the flower and pearls.  The jewel is secured on a blouse or lapel with a sturdy pin and "C" clasp.  Whiteside & Blank's care in crafting the brooch can be seen in the attention to the small, often unseen, details.

The maker's mark of Whiteside & Blank - a crescent pierced by an arrow - is stamped on the top of the "C" clasp and followed by "14" for the purity of the gold.  Whiteside & Blank was a maker of brooches, cufflinks and other fine jewels during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
